LandWatch argued against the County’s proposal at the Land Use Board of Appeals because it is a one-size-fits-all solution that may make any problem worse. 

Throughout Bend’s Urban Growth Boundary planning process, LandWatch has been the leading public interest group advocating for a limited expansion to prevent urban sprawl, encourage cost-effective growth, protect wildlife habitat, and foster affordable housing.

 Perhaps one reason people continue to move to Oregon is because our state is still beautiful, with dedicated farmland and many public recreation areas.

A new report shows the extreme rate at which we are losing natural areas to development in the American West.

This afternoon the Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) Steering Committee, which consists of the Bend City Council and representatives from the Bend Planning Commission and the Board of County Commissioners, approved a package of recommendations for Bend’s UGB expansion and associated growth management policies.                 

The public interest group believes the County’s overreaching proposal to allow sewers in rural southern Deschutes County would not solve public health or environmental issues South Deschutes County faces, and instead might make matters worse.

Wednesday, Central Oregon LandWatch persevered against an attempt to erode protections for farmland with a favorable decision from the Oregon Court of Appeals. 

The 2015 fire season was worse than any on record, and summertime temperatures are steadily escalating.

The lakes developed by KC Development Group in Tumalo destroyed wildlife habitat and were built in a rural residential area without the proper permits.

We live in Oregon for a reason. Whether your reason is the mountain views, golden fields, or the solitude you find while enjoying the pristine outdoors, you likely have our land use system to thank for protecting our land. Now, that system is under attack.
