New City Councilors, New Goals for Bend
Put plans into action!
Tonight, four new Bend City Councilors will be sworn into office.
In the November 2020 election, Bend residents voted in Melanie Kebler, Rita Schenkelberg, Anthony Broadman, and Megan Perkins to the council. As they each begin a four-year term, they join councilors Barb Cambell and Gena Goodman Campbell along with Mayor Sally Russell.
Their first task will be to set goals that will determine how the City spends its resources, including budget and staff time, over the next two and a half years.
It is clear that the new councilors want to tackle the housing crisis in Bend. The question is: how will they do it?
We support tangible solutions to create complete neighborhoods with affordable, safe, and healthy housing. The City has already laid the groundwork for healthy growth with these intentions. Now is the time to put planning into action!
TAKE ACTION:
Welcome the new City Councilors by asking them to prioritize solving the housing crisis by:
Implementing the Core Area Plan with clear direction and leadership. Check out the specifics of this in-depth plan here.
Supporting housing policies that benefit community members experiencing the greatest burden (i.e. renters, multi-family housing, the unhoused and unsheltered community).
Reducing barriers to development and promoting infrastructure within the current UGB’s Opportunity Areas and Expansion Areas.
Make sure City Council takes your voice into account in their goal-setting process. Email a comment to council@bendoregon.gov before January 20th, 2021.
