40 years of farm land in Central Oregon

Taken from GIS mapping software, this short video shows the growth of single-family houses on rural areas in Deschutes County between 1980 - 2017.

The red dots indicate rural housing development. The tan areas indicate cities' urban growth boundaries, which are meant to contain residential housing. Oregon's land use system was created to guide growth inside cities and towns (within urban growth boundaries) to protect surrounding rural lands for farming, wildlife habitat, and open space.
