Mapping Sisters Toolkit

The City of Sisters is planning for the next 20 years. Learn what's at stake for this special place in the 2040 Comprehensive Planning process and how you can make a difference.

Many people joined Central Oregon LandWatch on Tuesday, March 30 for Mapping Sisters’ Future. If you missed the event, you can watch the recorded Livestream here.

We had some great conversations, heard your concerns, generated constructive ideas, and clarified some questions about Urban Growth Boundaries and city planning processes. Thanks so much for showing up for this community, and we look forward to more conversation.

We wanted to share with you a few of the resources we discussed.

Maps

First and foremost, we wanted to share these maps with you. They illustrate some of what makes Sisters Country so special: natural spaces, wildlife habitat, farms and ranches, and Whychus Creek. This data can help inform decisions as Sisters plans for growth.

Each map shows the City of Sisters’ current Urban Growth Boundary (outlined in orange) and the surrounding 1-mile radius that would be affected by expansion.

A few ways to get involved.

1. First things first, feel free and share these maps. We hope they can help the public.

2. Reach out and let the City Council know what your vision for the future of Sisters is. Email citycouncil@ci.sisters.or.us or contact your individual councilors here. If you have an idea but aren’t sure how it fits into the Comprehensive Planning process, email us and we’ll be happy to help answer questions.

3. When the UGB Sufficiency report is released, there will be lots of opportunity for input - what do you support and what do want to see changed? Keep an eye out for an email from us. We’ll let you know when the report is released and what’s in it.

4. For more information on the Comprehensive Planning process from the City, contact Scott Woodford, Community Development Director, at 541-323-5211 or swoodford@ci.sisters.or.us or Nicole Mardell, Principal Planner, at 541-323-5208 or nmardell@ci.sisters.or.us.

5. Last but not least, please help us spread the word with local press coverage. Local media outlets will be key to amplify the voices of residents in this process. Consider writing to the Nugget, the Bulletin, or other outlets with any of these concerns (i.e., housing prices, thoughts on density, concern over farmland, ponderosa protection - all of these are so important).
