Calling all local photo enthusiasts!

As an environmental non-profit, we advocate for Central Oregon's livable future. We call on the public to take action to defend our region’s water, wildlife, farms, and forests and support vibrant and sustainable cities and towns.

And to do that, we need photos of all things Central Oregon!

If you are interested in supporting LandWatch’s work by sharing your photos, it helps more than you know.

We will always cite your work when we use it unless you prefer to remain anonymous. In the photos submission box below, you can let us know your preferred name for reference.

Current needs

We love all photography from Central Oregon. That includes all of Deschutes County, Crook County, and Jefferson County.

We have some upcoming action alerts around water, forest protections, creating climate-friendly communities, and protecting farm land in Central Oregon. We are specifically looking for:

  • Big trees! We continue to push for protections for Central Oregon’s largest remaining trees on public lands. To make big moves, we need to get national attention and involvement from thousands of people. We’re going to need a lot of photos of the big trees.

  • Water. Rivers and streams, tributaries and more. Water is a deeply complex issue here in the high desert. Trying to explain water policy and distribution isn’t always easy and photos can do wonders to help educate and activate an audience!

  • People! We want to see the faces of Central Oregon. Whether its out hiking or grabbing a bite to eat with a friend, send us photos of you doing what you love!

  • Farms and farmland. There are so many vibrant farming and ranching communities in Central Oregon. Send us your shots and help us advocate for farm protections across the region.

  • Good transportation infrastructure. In order to tackle climate change head on, we need better transportation networks. Transportation is key to equity. We need safe spaces for people to bike, walk, roll, and drive shorter distances to access work and services here in Central Oregon. Help us advocate for transportation improvements with photos of what works.

  • Housing. Housing access and environmental justice go hand-in-hand. We need photos of housing in Central Oregon that promotes equity and meets the needs of people who live and work here.

Matt Oliphant

@matt_oliphant_photography

My name is Matt Oliphant. I'm midwest born (Cincinnati, OH) and currently reside in Bend, Oregon. I've been here since February 2021 and love all the diversity and raw beauty that Oregon offers. Truly one of a kind place considering that it has so many diverse eco-regions at your fingertips to explore. Not many places can vouch for that!

Ever since I can remember, travel and adventure have always been an integral part of my life. I’m eternally grateful to my family for all this exposure to some amazing places at such a young age. I know for a fact this exposure acted as a catalyst for me.

When it comes to photography, I first fell in love with photography through landscape and food. The photography bug really started to hit once my father got me my first DSLR camera 5 years ago. It was the Nikon D7200. That camera lit the fire inside me to pursue this amazing craft.

I have been an intensely visual person since I was little. Photography helps me to express myself in ways I never thought possible. I hope my imagery instills and makes you feel something you haven’t felt or seen before. Something that strikes wonder and curiosity to adventure into the unknown.

See you on the trail 🙂

David Willingham

@william_d_willingham

Hello my name is David Willingham. I am a recording engineer and wildlife photographer. My family and I moved to Bend in 2016. I love being outside biking, hiking, or exploring all of Oregon's diverse places. I love all genres of photography, but wildlife is my passion. With my background in music, one of my side projects is live concert photography. You can find a couple of my images on album covers.

I personally use photography as a way to express my creativity. I am currently exploring ways to use my images as tools to help tell stories. My goal with wildlife photography is to spark interest and awareness in the complex issues we face in finding ways to coexist with wildlife, to help protect them, and conserve their fragile habitats.
